BARKING AND DAGENHAM: MARKSGATE
In partnership with St Marks' Church, Barking, The Berkley Foundation and London Borough of Barking & Dagenham (LBBD) we completed on 59 new homes (Marksgate) in Spring 2016 in one of the most deprived boroughs in England. 56 units are affordable homes provided by LBBD and we retained 3 units that we are using in partnership with St Marks church to house church workers and the needy. The remaining 56 units.
As part of this development the church received a brand new facility including a community kitchen and a multi-purpose hall. For the detailed plan please see the Marksgate link above. The development also enabled us to create a dowry that allowed the church to recruit individuals that will help the church progress and impact the community.
We will always consider developments that may or may not provide housing, but have a positive impact on their community.
GREENWICH DEVELOPMENT: ROCKMOUNT HOUSE
Green Pastures' first new build project houses 8 people who were at risk of homelessness in these 6 flats. Since 2009 Green Pastures has collaborated with Greenwich council to allocate tenants to the properties and to provide support where required.
The building has been designed to a high standard providing Code 3 energy efficient homes. This has a significant positive impact on their monthly bills.
We also constructed two 3-bed houses either side of the flats that were sold on the open market.
Shirebrook is a pub we are converting into a male hostel that will provide temporary accommodation for 15 individuals with 24-hour, 7-day a week on-site support.
This site was proposed to us by our partner Lighthouse Homes in 2012 but the vendor pulled out of the process. The vendor could not sell the property and approached Lighthouse Homes in 2015 to see if they were still interested. We were able to react quickly and purchase the building and progress a 6-month conversion programme which is due to complete in Spring 2016.
SOUTHPORT ROAD, SOUTHPORT
In 2013 we purchased a three and a half acre brown field site in West Lancashire. Planning permission for 49 dwellings is expected in Spring 2016. Our aspiration is to provide one new dwelling for every dwelling we purchase off the open market. This development will help us work towards this aspiration.
