Our mission has specifically been to reach out to people in our area who are marginalised, homeless, on drugs, in debt etc. Most of our church are young, male, and have come to faith in Jesus from totally non Christian backgrounds. (About 70% under 35 and 70% male). We are a very active church, not traditional, and somewhat unconventional, which is necessary to reach into parts of our area which has some of the highest incidents of poverty, and 18 -25 unemployment in the West Midlands and Staffs. Our Centre is usually open daily from 9am to 6pm plus various activities in the evenings and we have good relationships with most other churches in the area and they often refer people to us.
For some years we have run two houses where we are able to accommodate men who are homeless, (HMOs), currently 5 in residence and 3 who are waiting parked in temporary situations. We run a portacabin on the town centre car park which has been giving out free sandwiches etc four lunchtimes per week for the past 5 years. In October 2012 we set up a foodbank in conjunction with the Trussell Trust and now run 9 food distribution centres across the Cannock and South Staffordshire area with the support of 25 churches. The Green Pastures house is adding to our provision of accommodation in the area and we hope that this area of our work will continue to expand.
